Pre-auction Tasting of the 2026 CWG Auction Wines:
Thursday 17th September

This is a special invitation to attend the 2026 CWG Pre-Auction Wine tasting on Thursday 17th September at CWC from 7pm onwards.
The CWG has generously donated 58 samples of the 2026 CWG auction hand-crafted, small-batch wine selections from South Africa’s premier winemakers for us to taste.
Background:
The Cape Winemakers Guild Auction is recognized as South Africa’s leading wine auction. Established in 1982, it has become a benchmark of excellence. The CWG label is widely held as an authentic assurance of quality and craftsmanship.
Anticipation is mounting for the 42nd Annual Cape Winemakers Guild (CWG) Auction, which will take place on Friday, 2nd and Saturday, 3rd October 2026.
Showcasing rare and unique wines produced in very small quantities exclusively for the auction, this year wine enthusiasts will have the opportunity to bid on 2 Cap Classiques (sparkling wines), 21 white wines and 35 red wines.
Interested parties have the opportunity to bid online directly this year, or as part of a consolidated CWC bid. CWC will assist with the transportation of the wines from South Africa to Hong Kong.
As with previous years, the CWC consolidated bid will be a syndicate of buyers for those who prefer just a few bottles of each wine. Please click here for the CWG Auction Catalogue.
The Hong Kong tasting of the 2026 CWG Auction wines will be held on Thursday, 17th September at 19:00.
Given the high value and rarity of the wines on offer, all potential bidders attending this free tasting are requested to complete a simple registration document. This can be done prior to the event via Wincy Lai and Rachel Ip, or alternatively, a registration table will be set up at the event to complete a registration form, the list of wines and a tasting glass.
A Word from the Chairman, JD Pretorius: “Expect one of the most diverse selections of wines ever to go under the hammer. Highlights include the first Hamilton Russell wine on auction in more than a decade, a welcome return from Kaapzicht with an old-vine Chenin Blanc, and the first-ever CWG wines from winemaker Lukas van Loggerenberg.”
Auction Firsts to Watch For:
- Hamilton Russell Vineyards CWG Chardonnay 2025 (Emul Ross’s first auction wine)
- Lismore Child of Venus Viognier 2025 (Samantha O’Keefe’s first Viognier)
- Luddite Glorious Confusion 2025 (Niels Verburg’s first white wine field blend)

This Live and Online Auction will be hosted by Strauss & Co. As a hybrid Live and Online auction, online, telephonic and commission bidding will also be available. Those wishing to bid will be able to register online with Strauss & Co from Thursday, 20th August 2026 at www.straussart.co.za
While another online auction “The CWG Protégé Programme Auction” is starting from Thursday, 20th August at 08:00 and closes on Tuesday, 6th October 2026 18:00, each lot will close one minute after the previous lot has closed. Lots will remain open if bidders are still currently bidding on that lot, and active lots will close once the final bid has been placed.
